League vs Moreton Hall Eagles 18th September 2011 Match Report

The Hornets hosted Moreton Hall Eagles for their first league game of the season.

Both teams started brightly, the Hornets needed last ditch defending from Huggy and Owen to keep the Eagles from getting off to a flying start.

It was the Hornets who stung first with a goal started by a short goal kick from Dan to Smithy, he then played a superb ball the length of the pitch for Harvey to run onto, side step the keeper and score.

The Eagles had some good periods of possession and put pressure on the Hornets.
However good battling in midfield and a brave challenge from Elliott ended in a free kick to the Hornets on the right touchline. Smithy delivered a great ball to George who volleyed the ball inside the near post to make it 2-0, this could be a contender for goal of the season!

Just before half time the Hornets extended their lead further when Man of the match George threaded a pass through to Harvey who finished cooly.
Half time score- Hornets 3-0 Eagles

The second half started much the same as the first with super end to end football.
The Eagles got a goal back after a rare stray goal kick landed at Sammy Markwick's feet, he took full advantage and placed a low shot passed Dan in the Hornet's goal.

This seemed to spur the Hornet's back into their slick passing game and they were unlucky on a number of occassions not to score.
Goal number 4 did eventually come when Elliott's pass found Aaron who used his skills and pace to shoot passed the Eagles keeper.

The final goal of the game came from a well taken corner from Jacob which was turned in by Harvey to score his third and the Hornets 5th.

So with the final score being 5-1 the Hornet's management team were thrilled with the great attitude and effort from the players.
We wish Moreton Hall Eagles every success for the rest of the season and thank them for a great game.
